One of my university projects was to design an agent for the TAC Classic Trading Agent Competition. More info from SICS. It was implemented from JADE's agent toolkit and the middle layer API was developed to make it easy for people like us to write agents with ready-made callbacks for this competition.

We created and documented an agent called "blazin". So it wasn't world-class, but it was clean and it made fairly stable point scores! Average points were 1600 over 100 runs. The other competing agents were all students who had done this (relatively small) project.
